Dan and Sue Hummer
Stewards of Finneytown
Although not graduates of Finneytown High School, Dan and Sue are very active in the Finneytown community. Dan has been the Finneytown Athletic Department public address announcer for various sporting events since 1991. He is also president of STAR Soccer Club and led the formation of the STAR Soccer Club (Springfield Township Area) by combining operations with Winton United and Wyoming Soccer Clubs.
Sue has served on the Finneytown Secondary PTA as president and has been the publisher of the PTA Phone Book since 1993 as well as having served as Newsletter Editor, Mini-grants committee, After-Prom, and other committees on the PTA. She has been a volunteer for several years at the Whitaker Elementary library, Book Fair, and Whitaker Track and Field Day.
Dan and Sue established the Stephanie Hummer Memorial Projects in 1994 in memory of their daughter (Finneytown High School graduate 1994). They have chosen to use the funds for Finneytown community projects. The Stephanie Hummer Memorial Project (SHMP) was able to secure the land for the Stephanie Hummer Park in Finneytown and to donate that land to Springfield Township for community use as a soccer facility. Their contributions to Finneytown schools include the Wildcat mascot costume in conjunction with Stagecraft and the Whitaker Elementary illuminated display sign. Small donations have included book awards for character education at Whitaker and high school play/musical sponsorships.
In 1995, they established the Stephanie Hummer “Big Heart” award to recognize Finneytown Middle School students who volunteer, display school spirit, participate in school activities, and show kindness and consideration of others.
