Jenny Higgins-Cooper

Class of 1986

Jenny graduated cum laude from Finneytown High School and played for the soccer and basketball teams. The 1984 basketball team won district for the first time in school history. She earned All-time Leading Scorer (1117) and Rebounder (1095) as well as Enquirer Player of the Week and named to the HCNL All Star Team (1984-1985).


She lettered her Junior and Senior years at Miami University for basketball. During her junior year, the team won the Mid-American Conference Championship (1990-1991). She graduated from Miami University as a Scholar-Athlete with a B.S. in Secondary Science Education. She later enrolled at the University of West Alabama, where she was a teaching graduate assistant, and graduated with a M.A.T. in Biology. She has been named as the 2003 NISOD Excellence in Teaching Medallion Winner, 2003 Lamplight Award Winner and three times named to Who’s Who in American Teachers.


Jenny was the only assistant to a Men’s basketball program in the nation while she coached for years with her husband, Marty, at Itawamba Community College in Fulton, MS. The teams have won numerous league championships, a State Championship, a Regional Championship and made a National Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. In 1986, after graduation she played in China for the United States International Sports Exchange.


Jenny currently is a science teacher (as well as the Men's basketball coach, of course) at Belgreen High School in Russellville, AL.
